The greatest satisfaction that can come into one's life is the knowledge of duties well performed and having lived according to high principles and lofty ideas. In the late 1800's the time had come for women to step forward and express their views in public. Sallie Evans had the courage and leadership ability and was ready to meet that challenge. She along with other women of similar character decided to organize Queen Esther Chapter. Brother Joshua Williams supported them in this endeavor. This was the beginning of our Chapter. The exact date of organization remains unknown because the original charter was destroyed by fire. But it is common consensus that Queen Esther No.3 is perhaps the third oldest Chapter in the Jurisdiction of North Carolina.
Sallie Evans served as the first Worthy Matron and Brother Joshua Williams served as Worthy Patron. The membership grew-along with its reputation for providing community service. During the years of The Great Depression, Queen Esther found it necessary to suspend its regular meetings. However, having made a commitment to serve, members continued to pay dues and discuss items of importance at the home of Bro. Joshua Williams. Sister Sallie Evan's leadership abilities took her all the way to the top. She served as Grand Worthy Matron for the Jurisdiction of North Carolina in 1922, an honor in which we are most proud.
With God's Divine Guidance we have continued to grow and prosper. In its rich history Queen Esther has had 20 Worthy Matrons and 12 Worthy Patrons. We have also been blessed with the wisdom and knowledge from other Jurisdictions by having 7 Worthy Matrons who chose to share in this rich history.
Under the capable leadership of our Worthy Matrons and Worthy Patrons, Queen Esther continues to carryon the legacy of our founders. Special attention is given to our older Sisters, whom we affectionately call Sweethearts. We are striving to ensure the continued emotional, spiritual, and physical growth of our young ladies by providing a Gleaner Branch, which had its origin in 1967 as Queen Esther Branch No.4, and later named Wings of a Dove No.4. We support numerous charitable organizations, and we strive to keep the fraternal relationship with our Brothers in
The Sisters and Brothers in Queen Esther continue to carry the torch of leadership by serving in numerous capacities on the Grand level. In our recent history we have had a Most Worshipful Grand Master, a Grand Associate Matron, a Dean of Instruction, a District Advisor of the Youth Department, a Secretary of the State Gleaner, Youth Department, two Coastal Regional Chairs of the Youth Department, a Dean of Education of the Youth Department, a Grand Conductress, a Grand Lodge Secretary, a Grand Lodge Trustee, three District Deputy Grand Matrons, a District Deputy Grand Master, an Assistant District Deputy, a Grand Director of the Gleaner Youth Department, a Grand Youth Secretary and a Grand Worthy Matron. Many of these positions are being held today.
The members of Queen Esther Chapter No.3, under the leadership of Worthy Matron E. Rochelle Carter and Worthy Patron William, continue to prosper because we know that the greatest satisfaction that can come into one's life is the knowledge of duties well performed and having lived according to high principals and lofty ideals.
